Clement Arledge and the Whiskey Invoice

My 3rd great grandfather Clement Arledge was a Captain in the Tennessee 1st Infantry during the Civil War. He lost sight in one eye during battle and was forced to resign his commission in 1862. He spent the rest of the war supplying the Army of Tennessee with food, clothing, horses, and whiskey.

James Polk Yates Pension Application

This is the Civil War Pension Application of my 2nd great-grandfather James Polk Yates, who (at the age of 18) lost his right arm during the Battle of Shiloh. He wrote on his application that:

I was shot by a shell or piece of shell from a cannon in the right arm between elbow and shoulder and the arm was amputated by the surgeon just below the shoulder there on the field.
