My maternal grandfather grew up near the town of Winchester, Tennessee. This collection of photos and postcards of Winchester are mostly from the period when he lived in the area.
This was one of the treasures that we uncovered on our recent genealogy-focused trip to Tennessee. My maternal grandfather and his first wife purchased a home in 1926 in Winchester. The couple from whom they purchased the property were residing in Brazil at the time of the sale. The selling couple had their signed copy of the contract notarized by the American consulate in Brazil, which included an impressive seal-and-ribbon thing. This document now belongs to my aunt Frances, who would have been 4 years old when this home was purchased.
